This automated tester is designed for measuring the surface property for fabrics, paper, nonwovens, and film-like materials.
Frictional properties, and geometrical surface roughness can be measured by this tester.
After mounting a specimen, press the start switch Surface and roughness sensors are automatically set in position to start measurement.
After one measurement is completed, the sensor moves to measure a different position of specimen. In total, three different positions of specimen can be measured automatically.
MlU = Mean coefficient of friction(μ)
MMD = Mean deviation of MlU

Highest detectable sensitivity in surface contour is 0.5μ.
In surface property, a low-cut filter is set in the circuit to exclude the component over 1mm wave length so that data should correlate with finger-feeling.

Surface friction detection
  • Surface friction force detector: Ring type force sensor with differential transformer
  • Friction force sensitivity: 20gf = IV output in measurement sensitivity
  • Accuracy: Less than ±0.5% in full-scale Non-linearity is less than 0.5% in entire range
  • Force calibration: Calibrate it at 1V when hanging 20g weight to the load cell via pulley
  • Contacting area of friction contactor: 5mm x 5mm (0.25cm2)
Surface roughness detection
  • Surface roughness detector: Spring board type detector with differential transformer
  • Surface roughness sensitivity: 1V output at 40 microns
  • Accuracy: Less than ±0.5% in full-scale Non-linearity is less than 0.50% in entire range
  • Roughness displacement calibration: Calibrate the contactor as 1V = 0.04mm by adjusting micrometer
  • Shape of roughness contactor: Using 0.5mm wire, contacting area length of 5mm
  • Roughness spring force calibration: 10V output at 10gf compression (full-scale)
